My Lunchbox Journey Animation

Where do the foods in my lunchbox come from? How beneficial is this food to my health and the health of the planet? Where does the waste from my lunchbox end up?

My Lunchbox Journey is a community initiative by Clean Plate, in collaboration with Bunker Studio, AUT Human Potential Research Centre and the Connected Communities Department at Auckland Council, through its Innovation Fund. The main aim of this project is to raise awareness among students and whānau on how our food choices may impact not only our individual health, but the health of our planet. The main outputs by the end of phase one of the project were “My Lunchbox Journey” short-animation and its complementary “My Lunchbox Journey: Uncovering Science and Facts” reference guide.

Year 6 students from a group of schools across Auckland attended focus groups by Clean Plate and Auckland Council and explored a range of questions in the context of healthy and sustainable lunchboxes. Students’ voices were gathered using games and drawing and this material helped to inspire and guide the talented team at Bunker Studio, responsible for the My Lunchbox Journey short-animation’s creative process. Set in a school playground, where two children casually chat about the contents of their lunchboxes, My Lunchbox Journey animation is not only beautiful and fun to watch, but very informative for all.
